New Legislation in Immigration & Citizenship Law Signed into Law 3 August 2011

New legislation signed on 3 August provides for a number of amendments to Immigration and Citizenship law.

    
  • A significant change introduced by the legislation is the new definition of a non national which will have implications for the Gardai Stop and Search practice.

  • The new legislation, Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provision) Act 2011 makes provision for civil partners to receive treatment equal to married couples in the context of citizenship matters.
  • 
  • Certificates of Irish naturalisation will be granted in formal citizenship ceremonies for all future recepients of Irish citizenship.
