Hugh Lane - Culture Night 2016

The Hugh Lane Gallery on Parnell Square North has a variety of activities taking place this Friday September 16th for Culture Night 2016. For more information see below:

 

The gallery is delighted to be taking part in Culture Night again this year, and will will be open late with a wide range of events for all ages. Here is what is on for the evening, we hope you will drop in and join us!


Family drop-in activities:

5.30pm – 7.30pm

 

Activity 1 – Culture Night Interconnections

Join artist Ashleigh Downey to wrap, rip, stitch, and draw, contributing to an ever evolving installation of interconnecting patterns. By adding to or re-ordering the sculptural and drawing elements, you can make connections with the families who have taken part before you and after you. This meditative workshop, will be the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of Culture Night.

Activity 2 – Tableaux Vivants

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to recreate a scene from the Harry Clarke Eve of St Agnes or to have Tea in the Garden at the Hugh Lane? Well this Culture Night is an opportunity for families to restage live some of our favourite artworks!


5.30pm – 6pm – Harry Clarke, The Eve of St Agnes

6pm – 6.30pm – Walter Osborne, Tea in the Garden

6.30pm – 7pm – Walter Osborne, The Fishmarket

7pm – 7.30pm: Kathleen Fox, Science and Power

Short Talks on Collection & Exhibitions:

These informal talks will take place in front of individual artworks and exhibitions on the hour and half hour, lasting about 15 minutes per talk. Families are welcome to attend all our Culture Night talks. To find out the location for these talks, please ask at the gallery reception.

6pm – Sir John Lavery, High Treason: The Appeal of Roger Casement

6.30pm – Francis Bacon’s Studio

7.30pm – Sven Augustijnen, The Metronome Bursts of Automatic Fire… exhibition introduction

8pm – The Best of Decades, Paintings and Sculpture of the 1960s from the Collection, exhibition introduction

8.30pm – Renoir, Les Parapluies

 


Hvmmingbyrd, music performances:

6pm, 7pm and 7.50pm


Drop in to hear this electronic duo perform in the gallery’s Sculpture Hall. Hvmmingbyrd are known for their lush harmonies, striking vocals and heartfelt lyrics. With a stripped back set using just a loop machine, guitar and keys, the duo will play some mellow original music along some better known classics, reinvented in their unique style.

Refreshments will be available in our Itsa café.
