Manipuri Classical Dance Night, Hindu Cultural Centre of Ireland
26 June 2010
Hindu Cultural Centre Ireland (HCCI) & Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), a government of India agency,
are presenting "Manipuri Classical Dance Night" next Saturday, 26 June at the Helix, DCU, Glasnevin, Dublin 9.
Manipur is a small state in north east India wherefrom this style of dance form
comes. The Manipuri Classical dance is one of the oldest among Indian
classical dances dating back to 33 AD. The people of Manipur believe the
dance is creation of the God. It is a way of life for them. Manipuri dance is not seen
that commonly here in Ireland and for that reason alone it is something you
do not want to miss.
The troupe of dancers and musicians come from a school, Anjika, a very well
known institute in that part of the country.
HCCI is striving to promote and create awareness about various aspects of
the Indian Culture in the hope that it will contribute towards 'integration'
in modern multicultural Ireland.
