Intercultural Family Day with Romanian Community of Ireland, Integration through Sport & Shankill Tennis Club

5 June 2011

The Romanian Community of Ireland are hosting an Intercultural Family Day to mark June 1st, International Children's Day.

  • The event will see a Romanian Family invite an Irish Family to participate part in this event where each Romanian family participating will bring along an Irish family (friends, neighbours, work colleagues, etc). Participation of families from other nationalities is also welcome.

  • During the event our Irish friends will get to see, taste and learn about Romanian traditional foods (during the food exhibition/fair), experience traditional music and dance and also participate in various competitions for children and their parents (organised tennis sessions with professional coaches from Shankill Tennis Club (tennis courts) & other sporting compeitions.

  • We endeavour that this event will contribute to a better understanding and communication between cultures and thus it would break some of the stereotypes and negative media representations of Romanian people. Furthermore it would give the Romanian diaspora in Ireland an opportunity to present itself as a nation with a strong ethos, taking pride in its cultural identity.
