New Citizenship Application Forms Come into Use Friday 24 June 2011

Alan Shatter, Minister for Justice & Equality announced major reforms to the citizenship application process, Thursday 16 June 2011. Details of the measures aimed at reforming the Department of Justice's processing of naturalisation applications include:

  • The introduction of new simpler Citizenship Application Forms.
  • Reduction of citizenship application processing period to within six months save in exceptional circumstances.
  • The introduction of citizenship ceremonies for successful applicants.

The new citizenship application forms introduced by the Minister for Justice & Equality will only come in to use from Friday the 24th of June 2011. Any applications made on the newly published forms will not be valid if submitted before the 24th of June. Any applicants who have prepared an application on the old forms have until Thursday the 23rd of June to finalise and submit the applications.

APPLICATON FORMS (JUNE 2011)

  • Form 8 should be completed by all applicants aged 18 or over.
  • Form 8A should be completed by a parent/guardian on behalf of a minor born in the state for naturalization as an Irish Citizen. This is an eForm, which must be completed and submitted electronically.
  • Form 8A
  • Form 9 should be completed by a naturalized parent/guardian on behalf of their minor child.
  • Form 10 (Size 1123KB) should be completed by the parent/guardian on behalf of their minor child who has an Irish Association. This is an eForm, which must be completed and submitted electronically.
